Time passes so quickly and this is already our last day in Southern Iceland. We still have an entire day ahead of us before heading to the US. Today we plan to go for a hike in the Reykjadalur Valley to reach the hot spring river of Hvergardi, then have a short visit of Reykjavik and finally end up in Gardur, at the most western part of the Reykjanes Peninsula.
So many surprises await you in Iceland, even if you believe to know it well. On this third day we decided to visit several of the major sites in the Golden Circle, including those of Geysir and Gulfoss but also another little known jewel, the waterfalls of Brúarfoss.
It's already time to wake-up and get ready for our second day in Iceland. Today, we have to leave our guesthouse in Hella we rented for two nights and head-up for our second place in Selfoss where we'll stay for another two-nights to explore the Golden Circle. The two villages are not very far apart but we'll be on the road to see as new places. If you missed our day 1 adventures in the Southern parts in the region of Vik, I invite you to read them here.
Don't hesitate for a second to visit the Swimming Pool of Roubaix (La Piscine) if you're around in the North of France near Lille. As its name suggests, La Piscine is an art-deco swimming pool which was in service until 1985 and has been converted into a museum of art and industry. Have a look at the pictures below, get surprised and discover why I love this place.
There are trips you're waiting with a lot of impatience. Iceland was one of those. I've spent five wonderful days with my family visiting the Golden Circle and southern parts, during a stop-over before heading to Boston, last August. This country surprised me from the first to the last minute, crossing incredible landscapes and ever changing a few miles apart. Here's my story.
I've been lucky to receive an invite to attend the Europa League football final between Manchester United and Ajax Amsterdam that was held in Stockholm last may. This was also a good occasion to visit the Swedish capital during two beautiful spring days. All was so perfect between the football, the sightseeings and the great weather.
I decided I would relax for once this week. My tickets for the Bahamas were already booked and my luggage all packed and ready to go on tomorrow morning's flight. A few days rest would have done well to my tired body. But life is life, I got called tonight asking if I was fit for a new mission. After thoughts and seeing the challenge I decided ... to postpone my holidays.
Heading from Bellagio on Lake Como, the four of us finally got in Tuscany a few hours drive later with the plan to stay there a couple of days. Our new home for the holidays, Il Pian dei Mucini near the medieval town of Massa Marittima is very welcoming. The beautiful hilltop village holds its name from the nearby Maremma region and its proximity to the sea. We love the place so much that we visit the little town everyday to get at least a gellato, but it is also ideally located to discover the nearby countryside, small villages, Sienna as well as the tuscan coast.
Yeehaaa, the winter and skiing season are already approaching fast. Where to go this winter? You'll find me in Chandolin and in the Val d'Anniviers, in Switzerland, in 2018. Last year I went to the Grand Massif in the French Alps, more precisely in Les Carroz. There was less snow than other years from what I heard, but still had great moments on and off the slopes.
